All internet marketers know the value of having a list and many think that they need to build as big a list as possible. This however is a mistake, the goal should be to get quality leads, not a huge number of poor leads. Building a quality list is primarily about adding people who are likely to buy something. This is done by narrowing your focus rather than trying to get everybody to join your list.
The best way to get quality leads to subscribe to your list is to use long tail keywords. Every good internet marketer knows that long tail keywords are the key making sales, yet it is remarkable how few apply the same logic to list building. Long tail keywords narrow the focus and weed out the people who are just looking for information. Finding prospects by concentrating on long tail keywords will greatly improve the quality of your list.
When people search for something using long tail keywords they are far more likely to buy something than some one who searches using a more generic term. People who use broad search terms are primarily looking for information. People who use long tail keywords are looking for something specific and are far better prospects. We want the people who are going to buy something on our list. We can make far more sales to this smaller group than we can to the larger group who are just looking for information.
The obsession with building a large list often leads internet marketers to do things like using PPC advertising to get people to their list. Even worse some people will actually buy a list of subscribers which is absolutely crazy. People added through these types of approaches are very unlikely to buy anything from you. In fact a lot of them will not even be interested in the niche your promoting. This is not the approach to building a quality list. You need to stop obsessing over quantity and start worrying about quality.
The difference between quality and quantity when it comes to list building is important for internet marketers to keep in mind. Building a quality list is far more important than having a large list. Focusing your efforts on people who are interested in your niche and likely to make purchases is far more likely to be successful than the shotgun approach of trying to add everybody to your list.
